ABOUT US
One might think that art and science are incompatible. Indeed, they seem to be on opposing ends of a scale – art is born out of creativity and abstract thoughts, and a seemingly open set of rules, and science is a practice rooted in logic, facts, and structure. However, they have more in common than what meets the eye.
BioArtelier is an International student-led organization that strives to promote and explore the exciting mediums of bio art & design. By giving our members the freedom to explore and create tangible outcomes for their Bio-Art-related passions, we hope to raise awareness about this often-overlooked bridge between the arts and sciences. Our long-term goal is to consistently engage our online community through the creation of digital workshops, webinars, competitions, and digital content, where we will help establish a tight-knit community so young bio artists can support and share their passions within the field.
MEET OUR FOUNDER: SEOHYUN LEE
As a young artist, Seohyun found herself captivated by the intricate beauty of nature and the fascinating world of biology. Driven by a desire to explore the possibilities of combining these two seemingly disparate realms, she founded BioArtelier.
Her vision for BioArtelier is to foster a vibrant community where artists, scientists, and enthusiasts can come together to celebrate the beauty and wonder of life through artistic expression. By intertwining artistic creativity with scientific inquiry, she aims to challenge conventional perspectives and expand the boundaries of both disciplines.
Through BioArtelier, Seohyun envisions a world where biological art is
recognized as a unique and essential form of creative expression. She
believes that this merging of art and biology not only cultivates a
deeper appreciation for the natural world but also has the potential
to spark conversations, raise awareness, and generate innovative
solutions to the pressing challenges we face as a global society.

Ever since I was young I have always been passionate by both the fields of Fine Arts and Biology. When I first heard about the field of biological art & design, knowing it was a combination of both my passions, I was immediately intrigued; however I wanted to take my interest further to create impactful change. Driven by this determination, I decided to find BioArtelier. Being able to utilize my passion for design to help promote this organization I founded has been the most fulfilling experience yet. As we continue to grow and expand this organization I hope that we can further help bridge the gap between the Arts and Sciences!

Since I was a little child, I have always had a fascination for STEM and visual arts. For those of us who enjoy the "polar opposite" fields of biology and design, seamlessly fusing the two together through bio art is nothing short of a utopia. My decision to join Bioartelier was majorly influenced by the organization's efforts to give Bioart the recognition and appreciation it rightfully deserves. It's wonderful to live in a time when there are so many options available, and organisations like Bioartelier make sure that everyone knows that you don't have to pick between science and art any longer.

The field of biology and art, where sciences and creativity converge, has always fascinated me but being a STEM student I’ve always neglected the artistic side of my personality. Going through the BioArtelier account I realized that there is art all around me leading me to develop a deeper interest in exploring the intricate beauty and complexities of nature's biology through artistic expression. What I absolutely love about the organization is that it makes you realize that biology is just a canvas and that art is its medium of expression.

When I was a freshman in an international school in Korea, I joined a biology club as a member of drawing and making posts about Bioart topics. We competed in a lot of Bioart-related contests, periodically held science fairs as an afternoon school activity, and launched a fundraising campaign by selling Bioart magazines. Since I’ve had a lot of experience and exposure to Bioiart content, as soon as I read the description and plans for the BioArtelier, I was fascinated by its interesting and unique purposes! I've never seen such club that has a big vision and is organized by designating roles for future plans. As I’m a passionate art student, it really intrigued me to join this organization and I can’t wait to create amazing things about biology and art:)
